Imported Measles and Implications for Its Elimination in Taiwan

چکیده
During November 2008-May 2009, an outbreak of 53 measles cases occurred in Taiwan. Of these, 3 cases were sporadic, and the other 50 cases could be grouped into 8 clusters by genetic analysis. We determined 7 H1 genotypes linked to importation and 1 G3 genotype linked to an untraceable source.

Status of Measles Elimination from the Reported Outbreaks: Fars Province, 2001–03
Background: The status of measles elimination is best summarized by evaluation of the effective reproduction number R; maintaining R < 1 is necessary and sufficient to achieve elimination. In the present article, we estimated reproduction number for the measles data reported for the Fars province of Iran in 2001–03. Methods: We estimated by using sizes and durations of chains of measles transm...

متن کاملThe Epidemiology of Imported Malaria in Taiwan between 2002–2013: The Importance of Sensitive Surveillance and Implications for Pre-Travel Medical Advice
The purpose of this study was to assess the epidemiology of imported malaria in Taiwan between 2002 and 2013. We analyzed the national data recorded by the Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (Taiwan CDC). Malaria cases were diagnosed by blood films, polymerase chain reaction, or rapid diagnostic tests. The risk of re-establishment of malarial transmission in Taiwan was assessed. A total of 229 ...
متن کاملEndemic and Imported Measles Virus–Associated Outbreaks among Adults, Beijing, China, 2013
In 2013, a resurgence of measles occurred in Beijing, China. The outbreaks occurred among adults and were associated with endemic genotype H1 and imported genotype D8 viruses. Migrant workers were disproportionately represented in the outbreaks; thus, vaccinating such workers against measles may be an effective strategy toward the elimination of this disease.
متن کاملAssessment of the status of measles elimination from reported outbreaks: United States, 1997-1999.
The status of measles elimination is best summarized by evaluation of the effective reproduction number R; maintaining R<1 is necessary and sufficient to achieve elimination. Previously described methods for estimating R from the sizes and durations of chains of measles transmission and the proportion of cases imported were applied to the measles data reported for the United States in 1997-1999...
